GizmoBloom

Crochet pattern checker, every round recounted

Test your crochet pattern before you sell it: paste the pattern or open its PDF, and GizmoBloom counts the stitches of every round and row, shows the counts that do not add up — and gives the right number.

A stitch counter for the whole pattern Works offline

  • Paste your pattern, or open a PDF — GizmoBloom reads its words for you
  • Every round and row is recounted: ✓ right, ✗ wrong with the right count, or ? check by hand for stitches it cannot count for sure
  • "Makes 24 stitches, but it says (25)" — you see the round, the problem and the fix
  • It tells what your pattern is missing, like the gauge or the abbreviations
  • Copy the corrected pattern, or put the corrections back in the box
  • Press Try an example to see how it works before you paste your own
GizmoBloom's crochet pattern checker: 7 rounds right, 1 wrong — Round 4 makes 24 stitches but says 25, with the right count shown

What to paste

  • A pattern written in rounds or rows, with the stitch count at the end of each one — for example Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
  • Usual abbreviations: sc, hdc, dc, inc, dec, ch, sl st, magic ring, repeats in brackets and "around"
  • A pattern for a toy, a hat, a coaster or a blanket — several parts are checked one after the other
  • Knitting patterns are not crochet: GizmoBloom says so instead of guessing

Why check a crochet pattern before selling it

One wrong count in round 4 means every buyer's toy comes out wrong — and a bad review on Etsy. Pattern testers take days; GizmoBloom recounts the whole pattern in a second, so your testers can focus on the look and the fit.

The patterns GizmoBloom makes itself (blankets, toys and flat shapes) are counted as they are made. The checker is for the patterns you write. See the crochet pattern maker →

Questions about the crochet pattern checker

Is it a crochet stitch counter?

Yes, for a whole written pattern: it counts the stitches each round or row makes and compares them with the count you wrote.

Can it read my PDF pattern?

Yes: press "Open a PDF…" and its words fill the box. A scanned PDF (a photo of the pages) has no words to read; paste the text instead.

What does "check by hand" mean?

Some stitches cannot be counted for sure from the words alone (post stitches, for example). GizmoBloom marks them with a ? instead of guessing.

Does it need the internet?

No. The checker works on your computer.

Where is it in the app?

Crochet → Check a pattern.
